Daughters of the King
WISE WOMEN IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD
“Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.”
Titus 2:3-5
Age is a number; a marker of time, not badge of honor. In these verses, maturity is the qualifier. Humility and a willing heart open to the Spirit’s work and wisdom are the prerequisites. Whether in a gathering of food, fun, & fellowship or a more individual and intimate setting, as we develop relationship and disciple daughters of the King are women of integrity.
INTEGRITY=IDENTITY
Who we are because of whose we are.
Children imitate their parents. As children of God, daughters of the King , we are honest and uncompromising in His truth.
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.”
1Jn 3:1-3
We do not project the multi-faced nature of the world. We reflect His multi-faceted nature, like a diamond reflecting His brilliance or the petals of a flower displaying His glory.
“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”
Romans 8:16-17
1 Samuel 25 tells the story of Abigail. Scripture says she was discerning and beautiful and her husband , Nebal, was harsh and badly behaved. Nebal pridefully denied King David, and upon hearing it, Abigail sprang into action. She came to David providing what her husband had denied. She recognized David’s service to the Lord and obediently followed as the Lord led her to serve them both. Abigail suffered a bull-headed, self-interested husband but displayed honor and wisdom in serving her king. Women of integrity serve.
SERVING=SACRIFICE
What we do borne out of who we are.
Daughters of the King mirror God’s sacrificial love, which what He did and borne out of who He is.
In our sinful nature we resist authority. The authority of our fathers, the authority of our husbands, the authority of our King. We want what our feelings deceive us into thinking we deserve. And we listen to culture that tells us we’re right to forsake whatever it takes to get it, sacrificing our very identity as daughters of the King.
Whether we have a husband or not, kids or not, we all have a home; an environment in which God has placed us to keep orderly: free of the chaos that clutters hearts and minds, a space where He is glorified and honored by the content that is contained within it. Somewhere to seek Him and welcome others. Spit-shined floors and sparkling sinks are not a pre-requisite to creating this place where His presence is welcome.
“The sacrifices of God are a broken Spirit and Contrite heart.”
Ps 51:17
In humility we bow our hearts to Him and ask of God as David did.
“Search me, Oh God, and know my heart! Try me, and know my thoughts. And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Ps 139:23-24
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.”
Ps 51:10-12
We seek God in evaluating our heart, our motives for what we do.
Are you self-serving or sacrificing self?
What are you anxious about?
I venture to say that whatever you are anxious about, is the very thing you need to sacrifice; to lay down at His feet and trust Him in the details. I know it is for me.
As we trust our gracious Father in the details of our own life, and follow His everlasting way, we turn outward to those He has placed alongside and around us. Our choices no longer reflect how we feel, but project sacrificial obedience from a humble and willing heart. We serve with integrity and sacrifice, and relationships form as we focus on God and His glory in what He lays our hands to together in His name. Women of integrity who serve sacrificially are an encouragement to others.
ENCOURAGING=ESTEEMING OTHERS
Holding another’s identity in Christ, or simply as God’s creation, in high regard.
Bearing with one another, our sisters in Christ and others, in the literal and spiritual messes of life, daughters of the King use God’s word to define the spiritual messes while understanding and appreciating one’s perspective of their literal mess, all the while pointing them back to the spiritual significance. We are at the ready in every instance to encourage one another to live out who we are in Christ with lives of integrity, serving sacrificially, discipling one another with encouragement.
“But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”
Heb 3:13
Much of what we carry is not meant for us to bear. Weariness sets in when we don’t unload the weight of it in the right place. We often forget where that is and need help carrying it to the cross.
“if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Gal 6:1-2
Whether our own sin, that of another against us, or God-ordained suffering designed to draw us near to Him sanctifying us increasingly into His likeness, we need our family of faith to lift us up and point us in the right direction.
“ Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
James 5:13-16
Garbage in-garbage out. What comes out of you reflects what goes in. As a daughter of the King, you spend time daily with your Heavenly Father: in prayer, in His word, filling up on and projecting out what the apostle Paul references.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”
Ph 4:8-9
